Whitfield, a 1999 Pro Bowl’er, was a fixture on the Falcons offensive line that finished 14–2 in the regular season. The team went on to upset the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game and advance to Super Bowl XXXIII. The Falcons’ first–round draft choice played in 211 games over 15 NFL seasons: Atlanta Falcons (12), Jacksonville Jaguars(1), and the New York Giants(2).
During a stellar NFL career, Bob built a business around the burgeoning genre of hip‐hop music. In 1994, Patchwerks Inc. distributed the release of rap artist Ras Kass. Bob founded Patchwerks, Inc. the year prior to acquire music, television, and film rights and monetize its distribution through various media outlets. The success of the music label led to a distribution partnership with Priority Records in 1995. Bob integrated an Atlanta based recording studio as part of label operations. With an impressive roster of established and emerging acts in Atlanta, Patchwerks Studios recorded over 500 gold and platinum albums. This technologically innovative studios became a staple in the Atlanta music scene and a favorite of the top recording artist in the business.
Whitfield attended Stanford University, where he was a consensus All-America student–athlete in his junior season. Although he made an early draft departure, Whitfield returned to the university to complete a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Economics and was inducted in the Stanford Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
